What You Need to Know About Removing Your Invisalign Aligners
Getting Invisalign in Fort Myers, FL, is exciting, but you probably have some questions first, right? That’s what we’re here to help you with. Take a quick read about some of the things you need to know about wearing Invisalign clear dental aligners.
Do Invisalign Aligners Hurt?
Invisalign clear dental aligners don’t have any metal wires or brackets; therefore, they are more comfortable than traditional metal braces. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t feel anything.
Invisalign aligners, just like traditional braces, have to put pressure on your teeth to move them into their proper position. So, in that respect, you will still feel some discomfort when wearing Invisalign, especially when you are first fitted with them and when you change out your aligner trays (every two weeks or so).
With that being said, if you’re feeling a bit of discomfort, that’s an indication your aligners are working!
One other thing to note is that if your aligner trays become warped from hot water, being left in a hot car, or from grinding your teeth while you sleep, the warping can also make your aligners feel uncomfortable.
If your aligners warp, please see your orthodontist in Fort Myers, FL, immediately!
The Pain-Free Way to Remove Your Invisalign Aligners
If you don’t want your aligners to be uncomfortable or become damaged, you’ll need to learn how to remove them properly.
-
Top Arch Invisalign Removal
Start at either side of your top molars (all the way at the back of your mouth) on the tongue side. Use your thumb or index finger to carefully push the edge of your aligner down and away from your tooth. Repeat this process on the other side of your mouth. If the tray doesn’t come loose, use your fingernail or an Invisalign removal tool to push the aligner down. Do this by working your way around the arch of teeth.
-
Bottom Arch Invisalign Removal
Repeat the same as above, except with the bottom arch, you will need to place your finger on the outside of the tooth (the side next to your cheek).
The Worst Way to Remove Your Invisalign Aligners
You should never remove your aligner trays by peeling them away from your teeth from one side to the other.
